Getting married and having kids - passing on good genes.

pict via papertissue

Just wanted to share this convo...

Gerry: Getting married and having kids is the best thing in life.

Me: Dating is complicated and hard.

Gerry: You should get married and have kids.

Me: Marriage - okay. Kids - why? (half joking)

{Gerry is one of my favorite people at work. If you've judge him from the conversation, I should tell you that he's not a conservative Mormon in Utah.}

Gerry: What? You should have kids. Good people like you should have kids! Not those dumbasses that want to have lots of kids and they pass on their dumbass genes. There are so many idiots reproducing and I'm tired of it. Someone like you should be passing on your genes. You're a good and smart woman, and you'd make a great parent.

Me: Thanks Gerry. (Appreciate the compliment.)

It got me thinking... If I should pass on my good genes.

If I had a kid (boy or girl), this weekend we'd go hiking, biking, do some gardening, and throw a football around. It'd be fun. Hopefully the kid doesn't cry and throw tantum, I can't deal with that, well I'll have the husband deal with it. Yep, life is good... hahaha cause my husband will be better at dealing with the yucky snotty crying kid and I'll let him. Then when the kid stop crying, I'll have him/her around me again.

life. challenges. book.

Sometimes life is hard, but you got to just do the best you can and persevere with it until that bump in your life passes. Last week was really hard. More than anything, I needed a hug and moral support.

I'm currently reading an interesting book called No Shortcuts to the Top: Climbing the World's 14 Highest Peaks by Ed Viesturs. This man is amazing! Ed Viesturs is the Lance Armstrong of mounteering.

This book is going on the shelf as one of my favorite books.

One of my favorite books!

Recently, I read a wonderful novel called "The Art of Racing in the Rain". Any dog lover or anyone that loves a heart-tug story has to pick up this book. It's a story told through the eyes of a wise dog named Enzo. It is about this sweet dog and his human family. I won't lie, Enzo won me over from the beginning and I rooted for him through the whole novel. He made me laugh and he made me cry.

His owner is a race car driver that share his wisdom aboutlife and competitive racing with Enzo. One of Enzo mediation on life is "that which you manifest is before you." I believe it, "that which you manifest is before you." I believe there are some small steps I have to take to move myself forward towards the life I want. I am the creator of my destiny.

I shared this book with a friend at work, and she read it over the weekend. She left the book on my desk with a little note:

Holly,
Thank you for letting me borrow this. I really like it. I always wonder if dogs are way smarter than us and they just put up with us because their hearts are so huge that they just love us no matter what. :)
Thanks again,
M

Quote

“There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life.” John Lennon

Here are a couple old pictures from my visit to NYC. Great city to walk everywhere and see as much as possible from the streets.

Love the mountains

If there is a God, I think he or she would want us to appreciate and enjoy this amazing and wonderful world he/she created. Yes, I'm getting all spiritual on here, but it is Sunday after all and Sunday is one of those days I get a bit introspective, and also thinking about the Almighty.

Whenever I'm up in the mountains, I feel like it's my peace of Heaven and my place of joy and peace - like it's my place of sanctuary. It seem to be beautiful every seasons throughout the year.

I love the mountains. If I'm not snowboarding, I'm up there hiking. I'm such a mountain woman.

Today, I did just that. Woke up this morning and ate a healthy breakfast abundant in protein to sustain me for a day of snowboarding. I'm thankful that Easter brought lots of snow to our mountains this last couple of days. Also thankful that a lot of people had church or Easter function to attend, because that left me to enjoy the ski resort and fresh powder all to myself.

It was a great day in the mountain.

Amazing climber! Legendary man.
